EMS Implementation
Our primary business is to assist businesses to establish
an environmental management system (EMS) and obtain external certification.
Experience tells us that no two companies are the same and that the approach
has to be tailored to the company. In some cases, we have used BS 8555
as a way of achieving ISO 14001. In others, particularly when they have
already achieved registration to ISO 9001:2000, it has been quicker and
easier to develop the EMS on the basis of existing manuals, procedures
and practices.

Training
Another significant area of expertise is the design
and delivery of training courses to groups of smaller companies who are
embarking on the implementation of an EMS.
We have designed and delivered training courses to a number of SMEs, in
partnership with Eco Network and supported by larger companies.
Based on BS 8555 and using templates and between-course support, this
is a low-cost way of approaching ISO 14001 and building the essential
within-company support.
We have also delivered general awareness and senior manager briefings
to companies implementing an EMS.

Corporate Social Responsibility
Having established an environmental management system,
companies can benefit by extending the scope of their system to encompass
social issues. Employment practices, product selection and procurement
policies all play a part in establishing a track record as a socially
responsible enterprise.
Isostasy has been involved in setting out programmes for extending the
scope of an EMS and in drafting CSPRs (Corporate Social Responsibility
Performance Reports). After all, it is to a company's advantage to extol
its virtues to as wide an audience as possible.
Green Technologies for Buildings
Working with architects and developers is another strand of isostasy's
expertise. Projects completed to date include: the specification for ground
source heat pumps, rainwater harvesting, solar-voltaic panels, grey water
treatment for recycling and voltage conditioning for electricity supplies
and gas boiler controls.
With carbon emissions monitoring models, isostasy can measure and demonstrate
real reductions in carbon emissions and improvements in resource efficiency
through the adoption of these and other technologies.
